HIGH TEMPERATURE TAPES

Heat Resistant Tape

When you’re dealing with temperatures exceeding 250-300°F, it’s crucial to select tapes tailored for high-temperature applications. Here’s an overview of various types of heat resistant tape to guide your material selection process:

Silicone Adhesives: Silicone adhesives are renowned for their heat resistance, withstanding temperatures from -60°F to 500°F (-51°C to 260°C) for short-term uses. Widely utilized in aerospace, automotive, construction, and electrical sectors, silicone adhesives offer reliability in extreme heat scenarios.

Kapton (Polyamide) Tape: Favored in aerospace and PCB applications, Kapton tapes boast exceptional heat resistance, enduring temperatures from -103°F to 500°F (-75°C to 260°C), with anecdotal evidence suggesting functionality even in extreme conditions ranging from -320°F to 752°F (-196°C to 400°C).

Foils: Various foil adhesive tapes, including aluminum, copper, and stainless steel, find utility in EMI and RFI shielding, HVAC sealing, and packaging. Their temperature performance typically ranges from -65°F to 600°F (-54°C to 316°C), contingent on the specific type of foil employed.

Glass Cloth: Utilized for sound insulation and material reinforcement, glass cloth tapes exhibit robust heat resistance, capable of withstanding temperatures exceeding 500°F (260°C), akin to Kapton and foils.

Polyester (PET) Film Tape: Polyester tapes, suitable for electronic joining and high-temperature masking in powder coating, endure environments from -94°F to 400°F (-70°C to 204°C), withstanding even higher temperatures during shorter bake cycles.

VHB Tapes: Primarily employed for secure long-term bonds, VHB (“Very High Bonding”) Tapes offers varying heat resistance capabilities. While some variants withstand up to 450°F, most fall within the range of -40°F to 200°F (-40°C to 93°C).

Acrylic Adhesives: High-strength and flexible, acrylic adhesive tapes serve diverse industries, including automotive and medical. While some acrylic tapes can reach temperatures around 400°F (204°C), the majority operate below this threshold, with lower limits averaging -20°F to -40°F (-28°C to -40°C), depending on the specific tape.

When selecting a heat resistant tape, consider the unique requirements of your project alongside the performance characteristics of each tape type to ensure optimal results.
